Can I eat chicken with freezer burn?

According to Safeway grocery stores, it is not dangerous to eat chicken with freezer burn. However, the company recommends removing the section with the burn because it has lost too much moisture and flavor. An entire piece of chicken with freezer burn makes a safe, but tasteless meal.

Freezer burn appears as white or gray-brown patches on chicken. To prevent it, meat needs to be properly wrapped before being frozen. Items should be secured tightly in heavy foil, freezer paper or plastic designed for freezer use. Meats are safely stored in grocery store packaging for one to two months. After that, meats need additional wrapping. Packages of food should be dated, with older ones being used first.
