Can you eat starfish?

Certain species of starfish are edible. In some countries, such as Japan, starfish is considered a delicacy. Starfish can be baked, boiled or deep fried. The legs must be severed and opened to reach the edible flesh inside, which is scooped out with a small fork or spoon.

A starfish is actually not a fish at all. They have no fins, gills or scales. They belong to the Phylum Echinodermata, and are more closely related to sea urchins and sand dollars. All echinoderms share a five-point radial symmetry, meaning their bodies are divided into five equal sections. There are over 2,000 species of starfish, and they are found in tropical waters as well as colder climates.
