How can I flush a toilet with no running water?

Flush a toilet without running water by dumping a gallon of water into the bowl. You need a gallon-sized container, water and a towel. Flushing the toilet takes less than five minutes.

1. Fill a gallon-sized container with water

   If you know the water is going to be out of service, fill a tub with water before it goes out. Scoop a gallon of water into a container.

2. Lift the toilet seat and lid

   Lift the toilet seat and lid so they are out of the way.

3. Dump in the water

   Forcefully dump the water into the bowl. The pull of gravity causes the toilet to flush.

4. Clean up spills

   Wipe up any spills with a towel.
