Can a frozen fish come back to life?
By Forinfos - 19/09/2025 - 0 comments
A fish that has been completely frozen cannot come back to life. There is a common misconception that fish in outdoor ponds are frozen solid in the ice during the winter and are then revived in the spring.
Although ponds appear to freeze solid in the winter, only the top part of the water is solid, forming what is known as an ice cap, according to the Full Service Aquatics website. Beneath the ice cap, the fish spend the winter in a dormant state and use the oxygen given off by plants in the water. Like all other living things, if a fish's organs are all frozen solid, the fish is unable to survive. Because a fish is cold-blooded, it does have the ability to survive colder temperatures than most mammals.
