Can a fungal infection from one part of the body spread to another part?

Fungal infections can spread to other parts of the body if they are left untreated, according to Merck Manuals. However, it takes a while before they progress that far.
Many fungi live on the body. Only when the immune system is suppressed do they cause an issue. Most people do not realize they even have an infection for many years. Anti-fungal medications can be taken to cure the infection once it has been diagnosed. If a person has a decreased immune system, the infection is likely to spread quicker. If theinfection is not treated quickly, it can move to organs and can cause serious harm or death.
