Can I get a GED online?

As of 2014, the GED is not available online. It is a computer-based exam that must be taken at a testing center. There are 1700 testing sites spread throughout the United States.

The GED is offered as a paper exam only to individuals who need that as a testing modification. The computerized exam was developed to provide a consistent experience for all test-takers when it comes to format, instructions and timing. The test is more secure, which means that cheating has been reduced. Questions are presented in a variety of ways, including extended response, drag and drop, fill in the blank, short answer and multiple choice. Results are available within a few hours of taking the test.
