Can you find geometry in nature?

Geometric forms and structures are abundant in nature, and many of the natural processes that drive growth obey rules that can be described with fractal geometry. Plants, animals and many landforms develop in ways that generate recognizable shapes solely as a result of forces such as natural selection or erosion.
A prominent example of geometric design in nature is the spiral shell of many mollusks. These shells grow fractally, with small-scale patterns being reproduced on larger scales, because that is an easy shortcut to consistent, symmetrical growth. Such shells describe a consistent spiral pattern that can be mapped with an ever-increasing sequence of rectangular boxes.
