Hair loss can be caused by fungus on the scalp and other parts of the body according to WebMD. Ringworm is just one example of a fungus that can cause hair loss.
When ringworm or another type of fungus is present on the scalp, it can cause hair loss in patches. Typically hair loss is not the only symptom present as most people will experience redness, itching and oozing. If not treated, the original spot of fungus can expand affecting more of the scalp. Fortunately, there are treatments available for all types of fungal infections. The majority must be obtained by a prescription.
