According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, HIV is not spread through saliva. HIV is not transmittable through close contact such as kissing, hugging and using the same dishes or drinking glasses.
HIV is mainly spread by having sexual intercourse with an individual who has HIV; having multiple sex partners; sharing needles and syringes; and less commonly by being born to an infected mother or receiving a blood transfusion from an infected individual. The CDC adds that HIV does not survive long outside of the body, so it is not spread by touching an infected person's tears or sweat, by air or water or through insects such as mosquitoes.
