Can I hook up a DVD player to my computer?

It is possible to connect a DVD player to a computer as long as both devices have HDMI ports that facilitate the transmission of an audio and video signal. If these ports are not present, it is also possible to connect using a VGA converter.
A VGA converter is a small box that routes the DVD player's AV or S-Video cables into a USB port on the computer. This converter only process video signal, so the DVD player's audio cable needs to be plugged into a separate pair of speakers or audio device. When playing video using a VGA converter, there may be some degradation in the quality of the image.
