Karaoke can be played on a DVD player. A karaoke DVD plays on any DVD player; however, there are no microphone inputs or volume controls, so that functionality is lost, according to Karaoke Emporium.
A karaoke CD+G disc does not work in an ordinary DVD player, as the formats have to match. However, it is possible to play a karaoke CD+G disc in a CD player; the only downside is that users are not able to see the wording from the CD+G disc. The "G" in CD+G is the graphical layer, which is only compatible with dedicated karaoke CD+G players.
