The human intestine cannot wrap around the Earth. The small intestine is about 1 inch in diameter and 10 feet long in a living body. The large intestine is about 2.5 inches in diameter and 5 feet long in a living body.

The intestines are organs in the gastrointestinal tract of the digestive system. The function of the intestines is to digest food and release the nutrients from the food into the bloodstream. The small intestine is where most of the digestion and absorption of nutrients occur. The remaining digestion and absorption occur in the large intestine before the waste is expelled.
