PetMD.com says that certain species of small sharks make excellent pets. The most popular are the epaulette, the bamboo and the wobbegong. Like all sharks they are carnivorous sea dwellers and therefore need to be kept in a large saltwater tank and fed fresh seafood.
Baby nurse sharks are sometimes sold as pets, although some experts say this is not a good idea. Nurse sharks will outgrow even a very large aquarium in less than a year. Most species of shark are much too large to keep in a home aquarium even as babies. For example, baby great white sharks are 5 feet long at birth.
