Can I legally move out at 16?

Under specific circumstances, it may be possible for 16-year-old minors to move out of their parents' homes, according to the Legal Information Institute of Cornell University Law School. The process of legally moving out at such a young age is called emancipation, and it is only granted in certain cases.
Although laws differ from state to state, 16-year-old kids who are looking to move out must be able to show that they are able to support themselves without a parent's help. If a minor marries or becomes pregnant, the minor has an easier route to emancipation. Still, it is up to the courts to emancipate the minor, and many are not willing to do so when the kids are at such a young age.
