A gulf is a large body of water that is almost completely encompassed by land. Gulfs have a mouth, which can be big or small, through which water flows into and out of the gulf. The largest gulf on Earth is the Gulf of Mexico, which covers roughly 600,000 square miles between the United States, Mexico and Cuba. Other gulfs include the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of California.
