Anti-inflammatory medications, or NSAIDS, work by reducing the amount of certain chemicals that cause inflammation, explains WebMD. There is not a noticeable difference in the effectiveness of the types of NSAIDS, but one type may work better and have less side effects depending on the patient. Side effects can occur while using NSAIDS and may include stomach pain, stomach ulcers, increased risk of bleeding, headaches, high blood pressure and leg swelling.
