A current list of prison unit names, Web addresses and county locations is available online at TDCJ.state.tx.us. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice maintains public and private prisons, public and private state jails, private pre-parole transfer facilities and other criminal justice institutions.
As of August 2015, there are 109 TDCJ units, as well as three additional parole confinement facilities. On the list of TDCJ-operated entities is the James V. Allred Unit. The Allred Unit, located just north of the city of Wichita Falls in Wichita County, Texas, is a men's prison that opened in 1995 and was built to house upwards of 3,700 offenders.
