Can I lose a few inches a week by running six miles per day?

While running is a good way to lose pounds and inches, there is no formula to equate pounds lost to inches lost. The pounds and inches an individual can lose depends on the amount of running done and on how many calories the person consumes during that week.
Weight loss occurs only when a person burns more calories than are taken in. The number of calories burned while running depends on distance, speed and difficulty. A person weighing 150 pounds running 6 miles on level ground at 5 miles per hour, will burn 3,558 calories. Burning 3,500 calories is necessary to lose one pound, and a pound a day is a significant amount of weight loss.
