Make a simple homemade glass cleaner by mixing together 2 1/4 cups of distilled water, 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1/2 teaspoon of mild dish detergent. The homemade cleaner works well without the fumes and harsh chemicals present in many commercial cleaners.
- Add 2 1/4 cups of distilled water to a spray bottle
Pour 2 1/4 cups of distilled water into a standard spray bottle. Using distilled water ensures that the cleaner does not leave hard water marks when it dries.
- Add 1/4 cup of vinegar
Pour 1/4 cup of white or cider vinegar into the water. Vinegar helps the cleaner evaporate faster during use and prevents streaks.
- Add 1/2 teaspoon of a mild dish detergent
Add 1/2 teaspoon of a liquid dish detergent designed for hand washing. The detergent gently cleans glass by removing spots and grease marks. Use only 1/2 teaspoon to avoid soapy residue and the need to rinse your glass after cleaning.
- Swirl the mixture to combine
Gently swirl the solution in the bottle to mix the ingredients. Avoid shaking the mixture. Vigorous shaking produces suds that interfere with the cleaning process.
- Spray, wipe and polish to clean glass
To use homemade glass cleaner, first spray it on the glass to be cleaned. Then, wipe with a clean cloth or paper towel to remove dirt. Finally, polish the glass to a shine by rubbing with in a circular motion with a clean, dry rag or a clean paper towel.
