Where can you find a mile marker on a map?

Standard maps do not have symbols that correspond to individual mile markers. Rather, they have a scale that enables readers to translate distance on a map to miles.

To further assist users, maps also usually feature some type of symbol, such as dots, along lines that represent roads to delineate distances. Between these symbols is a number. That number represents the number of miles between the two symbols. It is possible to use the listed distance, scale and other symbols from the map legend to determine between which of the delineated points the reader is located and the location of the nearest mile marker.
