Can Native Americans grow beards?

Native Americans can grow beards, although historically most tribes preferred to remain clean-shaven. The idea that Native Americans could not grow beards is a myth, according to historians and the Native American community.
The style of hair worn by Native Americans varies between tribes. The most common hairstyles worn by Native American men were shaved, long braids or flowing hair. The roach style was often worn in the Mohawk and Mohican tribes. While most Native American men shaved their faces, mustaches and beards were worn by men of the Northwest coast tribes. Full beards were also found on men in the Paiutes tribe in Utah, as recorded by the Domingueze-Escalante Expedition.
