Can nurses have tattoos?

Whether or not a nurse can have a tattoo depends on the individual health care facility responsible for employing that nurse. There are numerous arguments both for and against the use of tattoos in the medical field.
Many health care facilities have employee dress code policies in place that determine whether any employee, including nurses, can have tattoos. In most cases, the presence of a tattoo is irrelevant, so long as during working hours the tattoo is kept covered by clothing or a smock. The main reason for this policy is to help ensure that employees look professional at all times while on the job.
