Can you give blood if you have a tattoo?

People who have tattoos can give blood in many situations. Some states, such as Georgia and New York, do not oversee tattoo businesses as of 2014, and blood donors in those states must wait 12 months after the tattoo is inked due to hepatitis concerns.
If a blood donor lives in a state that regulates tattoo facilities, he can give blood without a wait period. Tattoo businesses in approved states use sterile needles and do not reuse ink. A blood donor who has a tattoo and who lives in an approved state may, however, be disqualified from donating based on other considerations, such as certain types of international travel.
