Where can I find Old English lettering?

A classic example of Old English letters can be found in the epic poem "Beowulf," which dates between 800 and 1000 A.D. Other sources include the literature, art and history sections of a local library, design and calligraphy books, and font websites.
Old English refers to the Anglo-Saxon language spoken in England from approximately 500 to 1100 A.D. The language contains several letters no longer in use, so Old English can look distinctive. Highly decorative medieval and renaissance lettering, often called "Old English," was used later in history and is popular in modern fonts, but it is not authentic Old English.
