Eight months later, his average became a daily publication, involving 12 stocks, primarily railroads. The Wall Street Journal included the Dow Jones Average in its first publication in June 1889. The new Dow average included 20 stocks by October 1916. In October 1928, the Wall Street Journal published the first 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average.
