The previous close of the Dow Jones Industrial Average is available on the CNN Money website. CNN Money also provides the opening price, daily high, daily low and volume of trading. It also lists the current individual value of stocks, according to the Dow.
Charles Henry Dow began publishing the Dow Jones Average in July 1884, according to MeasuringWorth.com. Eight months later, his average became a daily publication, involving 12 stocks, primarily railroads. The Wall Street Journal included the Dow Jones Average in its first publication in June 1889. The new Dow average included 20 stocks by October 1916. In October 1928, the Wall Street Journal published the first 30-stock Dow Jones Industrial Average.
