Can you paint ceramic bathroom tile?

Ceramic bathroom tile can be painted to change the look of the room. Painting the ceramic tile in a shower has a tendency to peel from the constant moisture. Ceramic floor tile should only be painted if the high-traffic area is covered by a rug.

Painting ceramic bathroom tile involves carefully preparing the surface to allow the new paint to adhere as well as possible. The tile should be sanded with an orbital sander with a fine-grit paper. After the tile is sanded, it should be cleaned well using TSP cleaner. Once the tile is completely dry, apply thin coats of 100 percent acrylic semi-gloss primer and paint. The paint works best if it is slightly thinned to allow for many thin coats.
