According to Kids Health, it is possible for a person with an O positive blood type and a person with an O negative blood type to conceive a child together. Preventative care must be taken, otherwise the child can develop Rh disease. The mother also faces associated health risks.
Kids Health states that if the mother has an O negative blood type, she requires two Rh immune-globulin shots to prevent Rh incompatibility during and after pregnancy. Rh incompatibilty occurs when the mother is Rh negative and the child is Rh positive. This incompatibility can lead to Rh disease in the child, and it can cause severe anemia, jaundice, brain damage and heart failure.
