Several medical websites including WebMD, Mayo Clinic and Drugs.com offer pictures of Barrett's esophagus. Barrett's esophagus is a complication of gastroesophageal reflux disease, or GERD.

Barrett's esophagus is characterized by a change in the tissue of the lining of the esophagus, which carries food to the stomach, to a consistency similar to that found in the lining of the intestines. These changes alone do not produce symptoms. However, people with Barrett's esophagus may display symptoms resulting from GERD, such as frequent heartburn, difficulty swallowing and chest pain. In many cases, people with Barrett's esophagus never display any symptoms at all.
