Can I plant a hibiscus outside?

According to the National Gardening Association, hibiscus is hardy enough to succeed outdoors if proper care is maintained. The plants should be placed about 3 to 6 feet apart in a sunny area that accommodates their full height, which ranges up to 15 feet.
Hibiscus bases must be moist at all times, and they need at least 1 inch of rain or equivalent watering every week. During the growing season, hibiscus plants should be fertilized twice a month. As this plant is susceptible to colder weather, the hibiscus has to be covered or, if the plant is grown in a container, should be brought indoors if the temperature drops below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
