Can you play Minecraft for free online?

There is an initial fee to purchase "Minecraft," but there are no reoccurring costs to play "Minecraft" online. There is no legitimate way to play "Minecraft" completely free online.

As of 2015, "Minecraft" for Windows, Mac and Linux is available for purchase through Minecraft.net. Minecraft is also available for download through Xbox Live for Xbox 360 and Xbox One and through the Playstation Store for Playstation 3 and Playstation 4. Players qualify for discounts on "Minecraft" for newer platforms if they already own copies of the game on older platforms from the same brand. Hard copies of the game for Xbox and Playstation gaming systems are also available at game and department stores.
