Can you get pregnant after a uterine ablation?

According to Johns Hopkins Medicine, women usually cannot get pregnant after undergoing a uterine ablation. The procedure is intended for women who are finished having children. Even if pregnancy is achieved after a uterine ablation, the uterus may not be able to support the developing fetus and placenta.
During a uterine ablation, a thin layer of the endometrial lining of the uterus is permanently removed in order to stop abnormal bleeding, such as excessive bleeding during menstrual periods, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine. This may occur due to a hormonal imbalance or because of uterine fibroids. Women who have these problems but wish to get pregnant may be offered other treatments.
