When can puppies start drinking water?

Puppies can start drinking water when they are approximately 3 weeks old. Before this, puppies survive on the nourishment provided by their mother.
By 7 weeks of age, puppies are weaned off their mother completely and eat puppy food and drink water. They learn to drink water properly by watching their mother, but should be given only a shallow dish at first. After showing an ability to tolerate water, they can receive small amounts of puppy mush, which is created by blending puppy food with puppy replacement milk and hot water. As the puppies get older, access to water and mush can increase.
