Products labeled “real truffle oil” are available from upscale department stores, such as Bergdorf Goodman; from gourmet shops, such as Williams-Sonoma; and from online dealers, such as Truffle-Hunter.com. The term “real truffle oil” is a misnomer, as real truffles do not contain any fat or extractable oil.

Real truffle oils are oils, usually olive or grapeseed, that are infused with real truffles, as opposed to oils that have been chemically infused with artificial ingredients and fragrances; however, even products labeled as real truffle oil contain only trace amounts of truffles that do not impart much flavor. Most of these products also contain artificial flavoring and aromas.
