Brita water filters can be recycled by dropping them off at a Preserve recycling location. Used filters can also be mailed to TerraCycle. Both companies turn used Brita filters into new products. Recycled Brita filters are turned into toothbrushes, watering cans, razors and park benches.
Brita filters are considered a #5 plastic. They can be recycled in Preserve Gimme 5 drop-off bins located at many Whole Foods stores. TerraCycle accepts used Brita filters as part of their Brita Brigade program. TerraCycle provides posters and other materials for people who want to start a Brita Brigade in their community or workplace.
