To remove blackheads and whiteheads using a comedone extractor, first open your pores with warm water. Sterilize the comedone extractor, extract the blemish with the extractor and wash the affected area.
- Prepare your skin
To prepare your skin for comedone extraction, take a hot shower or apply a washcloth soaked in warm water to the blemished area for several minutes. The steam and heat opens clogged pores.
- Sterilize your extractor
Soak a cotton ball with rubbing alcohol. Use the cotton to wipe each end of the extractor for one minute.
- Place the extractor over your blemish
If your extractor has differently sized ends, place the end over the blemish that most closely matches it in size. The closer they match, the more thorough removal you will experience. Press the extractor end to the skin.
- Apply downward pressure
To extract infected material from the blemish, apply downward pressure to the extractor and firmly scrape it down across the blemish. It is perfectly normal for blood to appear with the infected material.
- Wash the affected area and allow to heal
Wash the blemished area gently with a mild soap and water. Rinse the soap residue thoroughly. Avoid touching or picking the treated area. Allow the blemish to heal completely.
- Sterilize the extractor
Before storing the extractor, sterilize per the instructions in Step 2.
