Lemon juice is an age-old ingredient for removing blackheads used prior to the invention of medicinal skin treatments. A main active ingredient in many commercial skin care products is alpha hydroxy acid, which is found naturally in lemons.

Treating blackheads with lemon juice involves squeezing some lemon juice into a container and using a cotton swab or ball to apply it directly to afflicted areas. Results appear within a few weeks when this is done three times a day. Storing the juice in a refrigerator keeps it fresh. Adding a few drops of glycerin to the lemon juice helps make skin smooth and shiny.
