Although sweating is a natural process of the human body, leaving stains on clothing can be embarrassing. You need an enzyme presoak, a sponge, white vinegar, water and ammonia. This process will take a variable amount of time based on garment composition.

  1. Determine the makeup of the garment

Determine the makeup of the garment with the sweat stains. The process for removing these stains varies according to the type of material. Delicate fibers, leather and vinyl require different treatments than washable fibers. Washable fibers include acrylic, cotton, linen, modacrylic, nylon, olefin, polyester and spandex.

  2. Pretreat the garment

If you need to remove sweat stains from washable fabric, pretreat the garment. Purchase an enzyme presoak, and dab it on the stains. Make sure to follow the instructions on the product. If it is an old sweat stain, mix up a solution of white vinegar and water. Sponge the solution onto the stains. If the garment has changed color due to the stains, treat the area with ammonia fumes.

  3. Launder the garment

Launder the garment after treating and soaking the stains. Treat and launder these stains as quickly as possible to keep the stains from ruining the fibers of the garment. Never iron sweat stains.
