Can you save money by using a low temperature dishwasher?

Dishwashers with low-temperature settings use less energy per washing cycle, thus saving money, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. Dishwashers usually heat water to between 140 and 145 F, and when the thermostat is changed to 120 F, the energy consumption drops proportionately.
Choosing the lowest temperature setting, however, may not be suitable for all types of dishes, as they may not come out of the dishwasher entirely clean, and even additional detergent cannot make up for the low water temperature. Instead, dishwasher owners can turn off the heat drying cycle and save around 15 percent in operating costs per washing cycle.
