Can you get Social Security at age 70?

People who have worked and paid into the Social Security system or who were married to a worker who did qualify for benefits based on the year of their birth; all 70 year olds who are eligible can receive Social Security. Social Security may be received much earlier.

People born in 1937 or earlier can get full retirement benefits from Social Security at age 65. The age for full benefits varies by 2 to 10 additional months past their 65th birthdays for those born between 1938 and 1942. For those born between 1943 and 1954, the retirement age is 66. People born in 1960 and after qualify for benefits at age 67.
