A yucca plant can be split. To do so, dig down between the main plant and the offshoot to the white connecting root, and sever it close to the main plant.
Splitting a yucca plant requires hand protection and safety equipment due to the sharp spines on the leaves and the plant. Sharp cutting tools help, and they should be sanitized in a solution to prevent spreading disease to the plant. The offshoot should be grown in a container for six to eight weeks until it has visible growth before replanting into the landscape. This helps the new plant establish itself.
