Can you tattoo over scars?

It is possible to apply tattoos successfully over scars. Depending upon the specific style, tattoos help hide marks; however, scars do not disappear, nor do their textures change. In addition, a scar must be completely healed before an artist covers it with a tattoo.

Scars sometimes react differently to ink than normal skin. Lines are not as sharp, making the addition of extra color necessary.

The design, placement and color of a tattoo work together to camouflage a scar. Typically, designs that have depth and use multiple colors work well. Designs with open spaces, such as tribal and Celtic patterns, allow more of a scar to show, so they disguise marks less effectively.
