How can I tell if my eggs have gone bad?

To tell if an egg is bad, crack it in a bowl. If the egg smells like sulfur, it is bad. The egg white of bad eggs may also appear pink, green or iridescent.
To distinguish fresh eggs from older eggs, place eggs in a bowl of cold water. Eggs that float are stale, but they may still be safe for consumption.
Fresh eggs in their shell last between three and five weeks in the refrigerator. Store eggs in their original carton, and place them in the back of the refrigerator as opposed to the door. Eggs should be stored at temperatures at or below 40 degrees Fahrenheit.
