Most tortoise supply items can be found in specialty pet shops and online pet supply websites. A full tortoise habitat requires a spacious glass terrarium, a moist substrate, a basking area, a hide box, temperature and humidity gauges and proper lighting fixtures; all of these are available at pet stores.

Pet tortoises can live happily indoors or outdoors depending on the climate. While all the supplies for an indoor terrarium are easily found in a pet store or online, outdoor tortoise habitats often need to be built from scratch. Building materials such as chicken wire and plywood can be found in hardware stores or home improvement stores.
