As of 2015, the total debt of the United States is found online at USDebtClock.org and USADebtClock.com. These sites calculate a continuous and running total of the national debt and are broken down into several categories, such as debt per person and unfunded liabilities.

The federal debt is defined as the total of direct liabilities of the United States Government and is composed of public debt, debt held by the public and gross federal debt. It is the sum total of deficits in which expenses exceed revenue to the government. As of 2015, the national debt stands at just over $18 trillion and continues to climb. The debt held by the public is just over $13 trillion, while intragovernmental holdings account for just over $5 trillion.
