Can an unemployment application be submitted online?

As of 2015, a person can submit an application for unemployment benefits online in many, but not all, states. Nebraska began requiring online filing in July 2015, though states such as New York and Michigan offer more than one application option. West Virginia requires people to apply in person.

Some states, such as California, accept online applications in some cases but require telephone or paper application in others. It may depend on whether it is an initial application or an application to reopen a claim. If the state needs additional information, the applicant may have to provide or deliver it by phone, by mail or in person.
