Ashwagandha can be used as a natural treatment for insomnia caused by stress, according to Andrew Weil, M.D. Dr. Weil recommends other measures in addition to taking ashwagandha to treat insomnia.
Ashwagandha is an herb that is effective at assisting the body in dealing with stress, advises Andrew Weil, M.D. The herb, which has antioxidant and anti-microbial properties, is also used to treat fatigue, skin diseases, diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and epilepsy.
In addition to taking ashwagandha, set a bedtime routine, avoid caffeine, exercise and sleep in a quiet, dark room. Meditation, yoga and breathing exercises are also useful to relax, recommends Dr. Weil.
