Some treatments for toenail fungus include oral antifungal drugs, medicated nail polish and medicated nail cream, states Mayo Clinic.

Users must take an oral antifungal drug for about six to 12 weeks until a new nail grows in without infection, notes Mayo Clinic. The results of these antifungal drugs are greater when combined with medicated nail polish and cream. To make these topical treatments work more effectively, patients often use a special lotion that contains urea to thin the nail.
