Grapefruit seed extract used in the same manner as tea tree oil is an alternative natural method, according to Dr. Weil. There are also oral anti-fungal drugs effective in treating toenail fungus, but they are not as safe and can cost more. Once the fungus is eradicated, it is advised to take precautions to prevent a recurrence.
