Can I use regular bleach in my pool?

Household bleach is actually a good source of chlorine to add to a swimming pool. When using bleach, one must be mindful of the different concentrations and added ingredients.

When choosing a household bleach to use in pools, be aware of the types available. A good bleach is one without added scents or fragrances, and one that contains 6-percent sodium hypochlorite. Make sure to use enough bleach to keep your pool's chlorine level at around 1.0 to 3.0 ppm. Also be sure to keep the pool's pH between 7.2 to 7.6 to maintain the color and appearance of your pool.
