Can you use two dollar bills in stores?

Two dollar bills are legal tender and can be used in stores and to pay any debts. Bills in this denomination continue to be produced and issued by the United States Bureau of Engraving according to demand, which is every few years.
Two dollar bills were first issued by the United States in 1862 and originally featured a portrait of Alexander Hamilton. The portrait of Thomas Jefferson has been used on the bill since 1869. The illustration on the back of the bill is an engraving of "The Signing of the Declaration of Independence," a painting by John Trumball. Unlike other bills that have been recently redesigned, there are no current plans to change the design of the two dollar bill.
